Following a brief stay in the Emergency Department, my brother was admitted to Shelby Baptist Medical Center. Although my brother is autistic, he felt very safe and was cared for by every single healthcare professional – right from the physicians and nurses in the ED, to nurses, and the specialists when he was transferred to the floor. They took great care to reconcile the medications and prepare him for the surgery. They also explained the entire procedure very patiently in a manner which he could easily understand. Every single professional was very kind and caring and made sure that both my brother and I were comfortable during the time there.

The hospital premises looked very clean and very quiet. Whenever I was lost or had some question, the staff was ready to help me out. I would definitely return for mine, and my family’s healthcare needs as well as recommend this wonderful hospital to others. Thank you, Shelby!

I was admitted to Shelby for surgery to repair my ankle which had broken after a fall. When I reached the ED, the nurses made me feel at ease and did all the necessary paperwork while taking my vitals. They sent for x-rays and relayed it to the orthopedic surgeon, who I must say is one of the best doctors I have ever come across.

The surgery went fine, and my postoperative stay was also exceptional. Everyone, I repeat, every single individual I came across during my treatment went out of their way to take good care of me. The food was also exceptional. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved in my care, especially Jana, Joy, and Kim (I think I got the names right). The staff was professional, and always respectful to me.

I had gone to Shelby Baptist ER due to a splitting headache, which earlier used to come once in a while, but had become constant of late. I was seen by a shithead, whose main aim was to make me accept her accusation that I was acting in this manner to get pain medications. I told that wuss that I have enough meds at home and I want some treatment for these recurring headaches. I tried to talk to her, but she just did not understand my condition. This was after a two-hour wait in a near-deserted ER. Finally, seeing that I was not getting anywhere with that shithead, I decided to leave AMA. I called up my PCP who ordered an MRI which revealed that fluid was collecting in my brain due to an internal injury. Immediate surgery saved my life.

I would request you to avoid going to this hospital and seeing the shithead. I think the doctor’s name was Dr. Washington.

Went to Shelby for delivering our child back in September. Staff was wonderful. We were assured that we were in very good hands. The doctor did a wonderful job. Was thorough and took her time in letting my wife know what was happening at every stage. At no point in our care, did we feel rushed. The staff was courteous and answered all my doubts, even some stupid questions. My family and I would be visiting this wonderful hospital for all our healthcare needs.

This review is for the billing practices at Shelby Baptist. I had a minor procedure done at the Shelby. My surgeon said I would not be charged a co-pay, but the hospital, as well as the ambulatory center, charged me a $200 co-pay. It was amusing that the hospital and the ambulatory center could not work together for resolving these issues. I took it up with the hospital which agreed to their mistake and issued a refund. Now four months later, I received a notice to pay $200 for the procedure at the hospital. Not sure if I would be paying it. This kind of things robs the hospital the good name which they get due to their excellent staff, excluding the billing department.

Given my propensity to get into freak accidents and injuries, I have been to many hospitals, but I must admit that Shelby Baptist Medical Center located at Alabaster, AL is one of the best hospitals I have ever visited. I had visited the hospital for a painful right wrist and fingers, courtesy a logging binge at my country cabin. Both the front desk and triage nurse were wonderful and very professional! The PA was very professional and took real good care of me. The nurse was quite chirpy, upbeat and had the most beautiful smile.

This was my first visit, but certainly not the last. While the staff was good, the hospital premise itself was also spic and span and did not give me jeepers that I get when I go to other hospitals. This hospital, surprisingly felt very inviting. Ironic, isn’t it.

You can call me a regular at Shelby Baptist Medical Center, because my entire family, right from my father to my youngest child, visits this hospital for all their needs. The staff is wonderful and ready to help. The hospital premise is very clean, and quiet. The nursing stations, as well as patient rooms, are situated behind closed doors, which make it safe from any unnecessary interference. If you want to visit the most reliable and the best hospital in Alabama, then this is the one. Keep up the good work, Shelby Baptist!!!
