My fiancée broke her arm after skidding on gasoline while repairing her bike. Living in Salamanca, the nearest ER for us was Olean General Hospital. We had heard many negative reviews about this hospital, but since this was an emergency, we decided to go to the hospital – BIG MISTAKE. We spent nearly two hours in the hospital, and the only person who attended to us was the intake nurse. By the way, when we went, the ER was nearly deserted. After seeing there was no person to attend to us, we decided to leave and go to the nearest hospital.

We went to another hospital nearby where they did immediate surgery to repair her hand. I've never encountered such a ridiculous hospital. It is better to drive past this hospital. It is not worth our hard-earned money.

I was wheeled into the ER after throwing up bile for nearly three hours. They admitted me to the ER but gave nothing that would have stabilized me. The only thing which they kept on saying was that things would subside after some time. I am sure they would subside because nothing would be left to throw up. The staff had terrible bedside manners. Just when I thought things could not get worse, these idiots discharged me at 1:00 AM in the morning, saying, “You are now all right. You can go home.” I was like, “Are you freaking kidding me?” Never would I step into this hospital.

My brother and I were taken to Olean General Hospital after we were involved in a motor vehicle accident. I must say that every single person whom we came in contact with were fabulous. They exceeded our expectations at every level. From the radiology techs to nurses to the doctors and even housekeeping staff, all were great. They made us feel positive and eager to face life after recovering from a horrible accident. Thank you, Olean General Hospital!

My boyfriend underwent major surgery at OGH (Olean General Hospital) a few months back, and we must admit that we were completely impressed by OGH. They take real care of the patients and their loved ones. The loved ones of the surgical patient are taken to a warm, spacious waiting area where there are many wonderful magazines for the people to read. They also have a nice fireplace.

Once in the waiting area, the staff keeps you updated about the progress of the patient who is undergoing surgery while ensuring that we are comfortable. They talk with you, get to know your names, and talking about anything under the sun. If we have any questions, the staff tries to get the answers from the concerned doctor and department. After my boyfriend was transferred to the post-surgical floor, the great care continued. Even though the shifts changed, the nurses came and introduced themselves. Frankly speaking, we never felt that anything was hidden from us and whatever information we needed was readily provided to us.

I hate hospitals, but if every hospital treats their patients and loved ones in this manner, then I would change my mind.

My son was recently hospitalized to Olean and honestly speaking, we had a pleasant experience at this hospital. Every single member of the staff was kind and very helpful. Yes, there are few issues, but none of them were very serious enough to give a negative review. What impressed me the most was that despite there being hordes of people in the ER that day, the staff took real good care of my son. They answered every single question of mine promptly and smilingly. We never felt rushed while talking to the medical team. Olean is doing a good job, and one must appreciate their efforts, I do.

I will break my review into two – one before surgery and one after surgery.

Pre-surgery: Under the care of highly skilled and professional nurses who are not only good in their field but also know how to crack a joke which can make you laugh till you gasp for breath. They also explain in detail the procedure that you are going to undergo, what are the complications and why is it necessary to have surgery. The waiting area was clean, quiet and the equipment was modern.

Post-surgery: A nice “welcome back” greeting from the aide and the nurse herself. They told what happened and how long I was inside the OT and the way ahead. They wanted to know if there was anything that I needed.

Overall, a wonderful experience made that way by a team of great professional doctors and nurses. I would recommend Olean General to all my friends and family who live in its catchment area.
