Hospital staff: helpful and compassionate.
I was out of town when my sister in law broke her femur and had no one else to take her to the hospital. The ambulance dropped her off at Northshore university hospital due to close proximity to where she lived. She said they treated her well. I called them up as soon as I heard and talked to the doctor. Hopped on the next flight and was at Northshore the following morning. I was surprised to see how happy she looked, considering she’d broken her bone. She said she’d never been taken care of the way the staff at this university hospital did.
Note: the public restroom near the waiting area was dirty. I talked to a housekeeping member about it and he apologized profusely. Had it cleaned in no time. So even though they are not perfect, they are willing to get there. And that’s all one can hope for.

Level of care at north shore university hospital is off the charts. Fantastic treatment to all patients, very fair and no special treatment for long time patients either (fav part). If you’re a friend visiting a patient there are some guidelines to be followed before coming to the hospital (certain things not to bring, etc) but other than that, cake walk. Very accessible hospital, rooms are not hard to find because the staff is friendly. A doctor literally walked me to my friend’s room.

The doctors and nurses will lie to your face. Claim that nothing is their mistake, that medical mistakes like this happen every now and then. My husband who needed an appendectomy was in the operation theater for over 5 hours and when I asked them why it was taking so long they claimed they’d started late. But this was not true… turns out during the operation one of the surgeons messed up and they needed time to cover up their mistake.
What kind of a hospital dose this? He had to be shifted back and forth and they thought I wouldn’t know. I threatened to sue which was when they finally shone some light on what had actually happened. So be careful if you come here for a surgical procedure because if they screw up, they will do everything to cover up their tracks. Not truthful at all and therefore non reliable. Never coming back here, never bring your loved ones here.

Mixed review: somewhat satisfied. Admitted as patient in this university hospital 2 months ago. Recvd good care, discharged in 3 days. Had some test results yet to recv, so asked them to mail to me when out. In a month I got a mail from North shore but they were not my records. Huge HIPAA violation. Called them to inform. They weren’t that bothered by it .

Zero star rating for Northshore University Hospital. After waiting for over 5 hours to see a doctor, I had to wait for 16 hours in total before I actually got a bed. Not even my own room by the way which I specifically requested. Very upset about this. Note that I was running a very high fever 102 degree centigrade and was asked to wait in the waiting room for that long.

Unfortunately every time I get a fever it is accompanied by a migraine and so that meant extreme sensitivity to light. As you can imagine a hospital is full of light 24x7 and this hospital had particularly bright lights. So when I asked a nurse if Icould be kept in a dark room for some time she refused. She was polite though- but said that no one could be give nspecial treatment. I appreciated her honesty but it did nothing for me. I still can’t imagine how I spent those 16 hours sitting there waiting for my room- it’s like a horrible, horrible dream.

After I got my bed it only got worse. I was sharing the room with 3 other people- apparently it was a very rushed day but the other two patients were friends are were talking non stop. At this point I was at the cusp of losing it and I fired at them. They stopped talking after that but complained to the nurse about me. The nurse then informed me a few hours later that I was being shifted to another room. Basically it was hell for 2 days straight, I just couldn’t wait to leave.

Almost considered it the following day but they refused, saying it would make no sense to leave. As soon as I got the nod to leave, I discharged myself and fled back home. Decided one thing: never again. Northshort university may be a great place to study for an aspiring doctor but it is no place for a self respecting patient. They treat you like shit and even though there are so many residents, employees, you never get personalized treatment.

Mother died of lung cancer at this hospital- still a 5 star rating for this hospital because they went above and beyond to help her. Happy she didn’t struggle in her last days, she was very happy with the service at this hospital and asked me to write this review. This one’s for you mom…
