This review is especially for Dr. Mikulak and his incredible staff. I had to undergo a hip replacement and have to tell it was a great experience, from beginning to the end. Dr. Mikulak is very unique. Since he was a gymnast during his college days, he has a better understanding of movement. His knowledge of ergonomics and physiology is grounded in what one can say at a different level of kinesthetic awareness. This along with excellent medical/surgical training turns him into a special man, and this is not just my opinion.

A big Thank You to Hoag Orthopedic Institute for employing such a wonderful gentleman. In case you need any second opinion, then HOI is the best place. If you are lucky enough to be referred to Dr. Mikulak, then there is no need for any other opinion.

I am amazed at how people can call the Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI) a great place. My experience at this place was nothing less than a disaster. HOI is a JOKE, and its staff is very unprofessional.

My story goes like this. I was suffering from severe low back pain which radiated to the buttocks, and my movement was severely limited. I call up HOI to schedule an appointment which I got without any hassles. I come to HOI on the D-day, get visited by a spine surgeon, who without even examining me tells me on my face that he cannot help me and I should go to Pain Management. They also refuse to examine or treat me. Unable to bear the pain anymore, I call up my wife and decide to drive down to LA to see a spine specialist. She conducts some basics tests and diagnoses me with Deep Gluteal Syndrome –the treatment, a surgery. I also end up being diagnosed with coccydynia. I just cannot imagine that I have to drive to LA for these things when HOI claims itself to be a top-notch orthopedic hospital.

Dr. J. White and his team were superb and knew their way around. The entire team is caring and very friendly. Dr. J. White is a bit reserved, and one might feel that he is arrogant, but this guy knows what he is doing and is the best in what he is doing. I had been suffering from a pinched nerve, and a herniated L5 disc and these people transformed me completely. There are not enough words for expressing my gratitude. I’m very glad I decided to visit HOI for my problem. Ultimate Respect!!!

Hoag Orthopedic Institute is good for elders, but not sure if it is good for kids. I had come down to HOI with my five-year-old daughter who hurt herself while playing. The ER team was quick and took an x-ray which showed a clean break at her tibia. I was hoping that a doctor would come immediately and start treatment, but it was a futile hope. The doctor came in after three bloody fucking hours. What made me blow my lid off was that the doctor saw the results but did not say anything. He just went off. After waiting for another half-an-hour, I decided to leave AMA and went to another hospital, where a quick surgery took place and she was placed in a boot.

I would never step my foot in HOI.

HOI team is great. I had recently undergone surgery for a broken right elbow. I must add that every single member whom I interacted with was a wonderful person. The staff was very caring and highly professional. They ensured that my surgery went off very well. I would recommend visiting this hospital for all your orthopedic requirements.

My mother underwent a total hip replacement and thanks to the great team out here, she was on her feet within a few months. I do not have enough words to thank the excellent team. Not only were they very professional, but they also ensured that my mother was taken good care of.

I had a fantastic hospital experience at Hoag Orthopedic Institute! The hospital waiting room is modernistic, beautifully decorated, and very comfy. Your loved ones can keep track of your progress on an integrated system placed on the wall. When it comes to the staff, they are highly professional and very attentive.

I was in the Institute for nearly a week, and I did not hear a single complaint either from the patients or from the staff (at least whom I have interacted with). What surprised me was the hospital food. It would be a shame to call them hospital food. It should be called gourmet food. Sample this – you can have Rosemary Chicken Breast, Chicken Caesar Salad, Asian Salmon along with Teriyaki Sauce, as well as some superb desserts like lemon bars, chocolate layer cake to name a few.

In short, the best place to get treated for your orthopedic issues.
